Amanda has been the office manager at Prosper Trail Animal Hospital since the doors opened in June 2013. She works hard behind the scenes to make PTAH a great place for our patients, their owners, and the staff. We sat down with Amanda to get to know her more.
Q: What made you want to become involved in the animal care industry?
A: I have had a love and connection to animals for as long as I can remember. When I was little I wanted to be a Veterinarian or a storm chaser. I worked as a dog bather for a groomer in high school. While getting my bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at Texas Tech, I worked at a veterinary hospital with the thought of going to veterinary school. During that time I found that I wanted to pursue the management route of the field instead. Animals are my passion but training and educating both staff and clients to know how give pets the best possible care is my goal.
Q: What are three words you would use to describe PTAH to a new client?
A: Caring Compassionate Family
Q: What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?
A: Making bonds with pets and their owners is always rewarding. Helping a pet and client through a difficult time gives a great sense of fulfillment. I am doing office and behind the scenes work the majority of my time so now I get that enjoyment through watching the other staff members at PTAH have those experiences. The best feeling is when I receive a positive comment or review about the clinic and staff. That is when I know our hard work is worth it.
Q: What would you be doing if you didn’t work with animals?
A: I have never wanted to do anything else but I have always loved numbers and math so maybe a math teacher or accountant. I am happy that I have found a career path of management in veterinary medicine that allows me to utilize my personal strengths while working with animals.
Q: What is one item on your bucket list?
A: Alaskan Cruise
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would you choose and why?
A: I would want the power to talk to animals. Dr. Doolittle is the best!
Q: You’re happiest when….
A: Relaxing with my husband and dogs at home.
Q: What is your proudest moment at PTAH?
A: I have a lot of proud moments at PTAH. I have been here since day one and being a part of the whole process and watching the clinic grow has been very rewarding. It may not be a moment but I am most proud of the staff at PTAH. They are a truly great group of people that work hard and truly love our patients and clients.
Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what are 3 things you could not live without?
A: My husband....He is nice to have around and he feeds me....win-win! My pillow....I love my sleep. Bug Spray.....since mosquitoes love me.
Q: What is one food that you could eat every day for the rest of your life?
A: Chips and Queso!
